Sustainable Fencing Materials

If you're thinking about building a fence, but are still mulling over what material to use, consider using one of these four eco-friendly options!

Bamboo
Bamboo is the world's fastest growing plant. In fact, some say you can sit and watch it grow. Regrowing many other types of wood would take 6+ times longer than the regrowth of bamboo! This makes it rapidly renewable and a good eco-friendly material for building your fence.

Reclaimed Lumber
Wood doesn't need to be brand new to make a beautiful fence. It's even likely that the aged reclaimed lumber would be of higher quality than newer virgin woods.

Recycled Plastic

That's right...you can build a fence out of recycled plastic. They're strong, waterproof, and very low-maintenance. Be careful when installing it, though, because it can be easily damaged if not. Make sure you go with a manufacturer that uses completely recycled plastic. Some use a blend of new and recycled, which is not very sustainable at all!

Tall Hedges
If it's just privacy you're looking for, then plant tall shrubs or other plants like Juniper Skyrockets. They require some maintenance (EX: trimming) but are both beautful and definitely renewable.
